LCV Technician

To inspect, diagnose, repair, service, and maintain light goods vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes to ensure they remain roadworthy, reliable, safe, and compliant with all relevant UK legislation and manufacturer specifications. The mechanic will be responsible for delivering high-quality workmanship

Vehicle Inspection and Diagnostics
andmiddot;Carry out routine inspections and scheduled maintenance on light goods vehicles.
andmiddot;Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic faults using specialist diagnostic equipment.
andmiddot;Identify wear, defects, and safety-critical issues.
andmiddot;Perform road tests before and after repairs where appropriate.

Repairs and Maintenance
andmiddot;Service vehicles in accordance with manufacturer schedules.
andmiddot;Repair or replace faulty components including:
oEngines
oGearboxes
oClutches
oBraking systems
oSteering systems
oSuspension components
oExhaust systems
oCooling systems
oFuel systems
oTiming belts/chains
oWheel bearings
oDriveshafts
oBatteries and charging systems
oLighting systems

Electrical and Electronic Systems
andmiddot;Diagnose and repair vehicle electrical faults.
andmiddot;Repair wiring, sensors, ECUs, alternators, starter motors, and lighting circuits.
andmiddot;Use manufacturer-approved diagnostic software to reset service indicators and calibrate vehicle systems.
MOT Preparation
andmiddot;Prepare vehicles for MOT testing.
andmiddot;Rectify MOT failures efficiently.
andmiddot;Ensure vehicles meet current DVSA road worthiness standards.
Record Keeping
andmiddot;Complete job cards accurately.
andmiddot;Record labour times and parts used.
andmiddot;Report additional defects found during repairs.
andmiddot;Maintain service histories and maintenance records.
Workshop Responsibilities
andmiddot;Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
andmiddot;Ensure workshop tools and equipment are correctly maintained.
andmiddot;Use specialist equipment safely and correctly.
andmiddot;Dispose of waste oils, tyres, batteries, and hazardous materials in accordance with environmental regulations.
andmiddot;Excellent understanding of petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicle systems.
andmiddot;Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
andmiddot;Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
andmiddot;Knowledge of DVSA road worthiness standards.
andmiddot;Good understanding of vehicle servicing schedules.
andmiddot;Competent in using electronic diagnostic equipment.
andmiddot;Strong attention to detail.
andmiddot;Ability to work independently and within a team.
andmiddot;Good communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications
andmiddot;Level 3 Diploma or NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
andmiddot;Full UK Driving Licence (desirable ).
andmiddot;MOT Tester qualification (desirable).
andmiddot;Hybrid/Electric Vehicle qualification (desirable).

Experience
andmiddot;Previous experience working as a Light Vehicle Mechanic.
andmiddot;Experience diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical faults.
andmiddot;Experience servicing and repairing a range of commercial vans and light goods vehicles.
andmiddot;Familiarity with manufacturer repair procedures and diagnostic systems.
