Location: Wednesbury
Salary: Up to £55,000
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off - Days & Nights

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Team Leader to join a busy food manufacturing operation in Wednesbury.
This is a hands-on leadership position where you will manage a small, multi-skilled engineering team while remaining actively involved in engineering and maintenance activities across the site.
The successful candidate will have a strong multi-skilled engineering background, ideally gained within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment, together with previous experience leading or supervising engineers.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Shift Manager, you will be responsible for leading a small team of multi-disciplined engineers and ensuring effective maintenance support across the operation.
You will take a proactive approach to engineering, helping to maximise plant availability, improve OEE and ensure planned maintenance activities are completed to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a small team of multi-skilled engineers.
- Provide hands-on engineering support alongside the team.
- Allocate engineering tasks and ensure daily work schedules are completed.
- Drive a proactive approach to preventative and planned maintenance.
- Support the achievement of plant OEE and PPM targets.
- Diagnose and rectify complex electrical and mechanical faults.
- Interpret and work from electrical and mechanical circuit drawings.
- Fault-find on industrial control systems, inverters and PLCs.
- Work with pneumatic and automated systems.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
- Support the development of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture within the engineering team.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant site procedures and legislation.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and good manufacturing practice.
- Use the site's CMMS to record and manage maintenance activities.
- Support engineering cover during busy periods and holiday requirements.
- Investigate engineering issues and contribute towards continuous improvement.
The successful Engineering Team Leader will ideally have:
- Time-served engineering background.
- Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer within food manufacturing, FMCG or a similar production environment.
- Previous experience leading, supervising or managing a small engineering team.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
- Recognised electrical engineering qualification, ideally HNC level or equivalent.
- 18th Edition qualification.
- Experience working with PLCs, inverters and industrial control systems.
- Ability to fault-find using complex electrical drawings.
- Experience with pneumatics and automated production equipment.
- Previous experience using a CMMS.
- Good understanding of maintenance planning and PPM.
- Good computer literacy.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to make quick and accurate decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within an engineering environment.
- Awareness of HACCP, PUWER, LOLER and COSHH.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated, organised and able to work on your own initiative.
- Flexible approach to working within a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience within food manufacturing, particularly high-care or food processing environments.
- Previous experience leading an engineering team.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Health & Safety qualifications.
- Experience carrying out electrical testing and inspection.
- Experience with SCADA, access control, CCTV or machine-specific control systems.
- Salary of up to £55,000
- 4 on 4 off shift pattern - days and nights
